Wilmslow Guild Players

Joining Wilmslow Guild Players

New members are always welcome irrespective of previous experience and interests. We offer opportunities to the experienced who wish to get involved straight away and to newcomers who often like to build up their confidence and experience through gradual involvement in a friendly informal environment. We pride ourselves on the warmth of our welcome, our social activities and the opportunities and help we offer to acquire and apply skills in acting and stagecraft. So, whatever your tastes, be they acting, directing, lighting, sound, wardrobe, set design and construction, front of house, stage management, play selection and casting, or publicity, there is a place for you with us.

Getting involved...

Everybody who joins the Players is encouraged to have a go at all aspects of putting on a play. Besides acting, stagecraft includes directing, stage management, set building, lighting, sound effects and music, costumes, make-up, prompt, properties and front-of-house. Anyone volunteering to do any of these equally vital tasks will be given help and advice by those who have done it before. Whilst we expect to maintain a high standard in our productions, we would emphasise that our objective is to enjoy ourselves in agreeable company whilst learning something new.

Newsletter...

Our newsletter is published every six weeks or so, and is our main way of informing our membership of forthcoming events. The newsletter is distributed by email to those people who are Internet users. With a newsletter circulation of over 75 it is difficult for the committees to contact everybody personally - the onus is therefore on you to contact us when you see an activity you would like to be involved in. The newsletter will always contain contact details for every committee member.

Committees...

The Players were one of the founder groups of the Wilmslow Guild, and have therefore been in existence for over seventy five years. The group is managed by committees elected by the members at an Annual General Meeting in May each year. The 'Main' Committee consists of the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer, and about three 'general' members whose duties include the organisation of publicity, front of house and social events. The Play Selection and Casting Committee has a chairman and about five 'general' members. These committees meet about once a month during the season, which runs from September to July.
